The Tsunami Brothers - Edmonton Band

Play it Forward 2018

THANK YOU!

The Tsunami Brothers are a four-piece surf band that plays instrumental surf music from the first wave of surf music (1961-1964), the second wave of surf music (1979-1980), and the third wave of surf music (1994-present). Dick Dale, The Ventures, Jon and The Nightriders, The Fathoms are just some of the artists The Tsunami Brothers like to play.

The Tsunami Brothers: all veterans of the Edmonton music scene and featuring the classic surf bandThe Tsunami Brothers band - Edmonton line up: two guitars, bass and drums formed in 2011 because each member had a love of and an admiration for authentic surf music. They now have an active repertoire of more than 50 classic tunes ranging from the great age of surf music to the vibrant surf band tunes of today. All are played as they were recorded—in other words, The Tsunami Brothers do not “jam out” any tune. They play “live off the floor” as did the surf bands of the 1960s, (making for a very quick and easy set up and tear down). The Tsunami Brothers wear black suits, white shirts and black ties every performance and just might do the 60s surf band “steps” as they play. WOW!

The Tsunami Brothers are welcoming guitarist Kent Shores to their lineup.

John Towill

Bass

John Towill has also performed with Blackboard Jungle, which won the Best Cover Band Competition 2017. He has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Cindy Church, Sylvia Tyson, Adam Gregory Laura Vinson, Michael Mitchell, Darrell Barr and lots more.

We asked John his favourite memories and wow! "Playing Massey Hall, Toronto. Playing the Canada Day noon show, live to air across Canada from Parliament Hill, Ottawa. (Right next to the Prime Minister!)" And what does he do for fun? "Baseball! Piano lessons! Maui! Surf tunes!"
